As you are aware, one of our greatest challenges this year is membership in Rotary. There will be only two Rotary International Presidential Membership Conferences take place in the United States this Rotary year. The conference on the west coast will occur in Phoenix, Arizona, January 9, 10, 2009.

Rescue Teams Challenge Each Other at 13th Annual Emergency Preparedness Fair. The City of Los Angeles Emergency Preparedness Department and the Business and Industry Council for Emergency Planning and Preparedness (BICEPP) are co-hosting an Emergency Preparedness Fair at 9 a.m. on Saturday, April 3rd at the Los Angeles Convention Center (West Hall), 1201 S. Figueroa Street, in Downtown Los Angeles. Admission to the fair is free. The challenge will be divided into the Corporate Business Division and the Community Division. Each team of 10 members will compete in seven events that will test their skills in emergency response. Events include Triage, Patient Packaging and Transport, Medical Aid, Lifting and Cribbing, Search Room, Fire Safety and Suppression, and Command. "I am excited about this team challenge,” said Ellis Stanley, General Manager of the City's Emergency Preparedness Department. "Competitive events like these simulate emergencies and help us test our life-saving skills when our adrenaline levels are elevated. Los Angeles is better prepared because of all the organizations that BICEPP and the City have brought together for this challenge."
